September in Israel is a great month – there are hundreds of things to do in Israel in September 2015, however, it is also a month with a number of festival days in which businesses close – the most important are Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur. The things to do in Israel in September include festivals, concerts, and much, much more. See some of the highlights of September 2015 below.

September 2015 Events in Israel

Until September 4 – Jerusalem Sacred Music Festival. A music extravaganza that brings together artists and musicians from all over the world.

Until September 5 – MAMMA MIA. One of the world’s most successful musicals, MAMMA MIA returns to Tel Aviv for a series of performances

September 10-12 – Opera Festival in Akko. The 30th Opera Festival will feature three different events: The Marriage of Figaro, The Three Tenors, and Cinderella.

September 12 – Julio Iglesias Jr Concert in Tel Aviv. The son of Julio Iglesias who was one of the best-selling music artists in history is performing at Hangar 11.

September 13-15 – Rosh Hashana in Israel – Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana is one of the two most recognized days in the Jewish calendar (along with Yom Kippur). Like all Jewish festivals, it runs from sundown on the evening before (the 13th) to sundown on the evening after (the 15th)

September 22-23 – Yom Kippur. The holiest day in the Jewish year is a unique day in Israel with the roads empty of traffic and no businesses open.

September 24 through November – Jerusalem Biennale for Contemporary Jewish Art. The event will showcase 200 Israeli and international professional artists in 10 exhibitions across the city.

September 26 – Joe Bonamassa in Tel Aviv. Starting his career at age 12, opening for BB King, his show is considered the ‘guitar show of the year’.

September 27-October 4 – Sukkot in Israel. A week-long Jewish festival accompanied by dozens of events. Stay tuned for an upcoming announcement about events during Sukkot.

September 29 into October – International Hot Air Balloon Festival. The festivals in Gilboa and Park Eshkol bring hot air balloons to Israel from around the world and offer fun and family friendly activities in some of the most beautiful parts of Israel.

September 30 – Kayne West in Tel Aviv. One of the most successful artists and producers of the last decade, he is coming to Israel for his first performance.
