Camp Arcadia, www.camparcadia.com, a fourth-generation, family-operated overnight summer camp for girls in Southern Maine, is offering two weeks of “Family Camp” for Summer 2016, tailored to families and friend groups of all ages looking for an all-inclusive, healthy, rustic getaway at a reasonable price.

Arcadia, now in its 101st season, has been hosting one week of Family Camp at its 365-acre campus on Pleasant Lake in Casco Maine for 37 years. For the first time, they are hosting an additional Family Camp week tailored to health and wellness – this one more suitable to adults and older children.

“During Family Camp, there are activities designed to engage each member of a family who loves the out-of-doors: from a sailing regatta, to distant swims, day hikes, arts and crafts, yoga, camp fires to horseback riding. There are tasty, healthy meals, an opportunity to catch up on that long anticipated book, or watch the sun set over the lake as the loons call. There is truly something for everyone,” Camp Director Louise Fritts Johnson said.

“In an age of total technology connectedness, we offer a setting in which human connectedness and quality time with family and friends is at the forefront,” Fritts Johnson continued. “We take pride in an atmosphere is easy-going and casual. Our staff can help you plan day trips around Maine or you can remain on campus and enjoy the property and activities. Arcadia’s Family Camp brings friends and families together for laughter, fun and memory-making experiences in the out-of-doors.”

During the first week (August 14-20), in addition to the usual offerings, there are organized children’s programs, babysitting, and a planned evening program. The newly-offered second week (August 21-27) will cater to adults and older children. While there will be babysitting offered, there will not be organized children’s programs. This second week will also feature an applied yoga anatomy class (yoga teacher training) taught by Leslee Clark, more yoga taught by Leah Naylor, deep water swims, distant hikes, as well as a writing workshop taught by published author Amy Gordon.

Arcadia’s accommodations are rustic and serene. All include a screened cabin with a front porch, deck chairs and a view of Pleasant Lake. Each cabin has running water, and some have electricity and fireplaces.

The meals offered are healthy and plentiful. Arcadia offers family style dining, made-to-order or breakfast buffet, breakfast baskets delivered to your cabin and picnics at the beach. Each week is punctuated at an outdoor Gala Dinner featuring fresh Maine lobster.

Gatehouse Rentals
There is yet another option available if you would prefer to vacation in Maine and make Arcadia’s Gatehouse, our farm house that sleeps eight comfortably, your home base. Arcadia staff would be happy to help you to plan the weekend in as much detail as you would like – up to and including planning activities and providing meals.
