Myanmar’s famed Inle Lake is steering towards one of the most anticipated festivals of the year. The Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival which takes place throughout the month of October showcases impressive processions on the water, thrilling boat races, traditional dances and martial arts.

Villagers living on Inle Lake and around the region will gather and team up to take four Buddha images around the lake in a gilded barge led by troupes of one-legged rowers. The procession will pass by villages where the locals will line up to greet the four Buddha images with fanfares and celebrate every ritual moment.
